Karate Match

We went to Karate today. It’s Luke’s first time doing Karate since he’s been sick for a week. Since we switch off wearing the good gi (we have a good thick gi and a cheap thin gi and we switch each class) and I’ve been wearing it for a week, it was Luke’s turn to wear it. I was used to the good gi ’cause it was thick and I was used to it being hot but now when I wore the thin gi, I was chilly! brrr. . .

Class was good. John (the teacher) had us do Kumite from one step sparring all the way to semi-free sparring. At the end, he got out some tape and marked the corners for a makeshift tournament ring. Kai (who is a tournament champion) was there and he helped out. I won the first (out of two) matches. Then Luke sparred with another student but the student won so I went up against him to see who was the semi-victor. I managed to feint with a snap kick and then went in with a lunge punch which got me the first point. Next round, he got me either in the chin ((lightly) or in the chest but either way, he won that round. Next round, I accidentally stepped out of the ring which lost me a point. Next round, I managed to push the guy out of the ring (not by touching him but by advancing and feigning attacks) which got me a point. Last round, he attacked to the chest and I blocked and counter attacked but struck his hand rather than his chest. Even though I didn’t hit, I think I got a point ’cause the timing ‘n all was good. Either way, I won.

So all in all, That was “hecka” fun!

  • somedays i enjoy sparring and kumite-others, like today, it’s just a headache-literally-felt like i was moving in glue, just stood there and let my partner punch me at will…life kicks me in the ass, i dont need to get hot in the head, too…buddy

  • some days you’re the dog and other times you’re the firehydrant.

when I was taking TaeKwonDo, I really enjoyed sparing (kyorugi), forms (pomse)were a necessary part in order to get promoted to the next belt, but they were boring.

  • ah, the lows and now the highs, of sparring-today i pulled off a move i’ve been wanting to try for a long time: my opponent grabbed my foot during a kick, so i jumped up and kicked him with my other one-good clean hard shot -earned me a round of applause-of course thats about all i did well, but thats enuf for this old man…
    buddy
