Last year, I watched the six hour long Alec Guiness Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy movie only once and since the story is sooooooo complicated, I kinda understood it all but there was some stuff that I wasn’t sure of. Over the past year, I’ve watched bits of it (since I got the DVD) but each time I put it on, Ma (who was in the same room as the tube [TV]) didn’t want to watch it ’cause she didn’t understand it, didn’t want to take the time to understand it and the thought of slogging through six hours was depressing. Well, Finally, we considered watching one hour/weekend. (since each episode is an hour) It seemed managable so we did that. I stayed on track of the story the most and Pa stayed on track the second to most. Ma stayed on track the least ’cause she kept getting confused about who people are and what they were doing (’cause it’s confusing if you haven’t already watched it once). Luke fell asleep at the end of the first episode. The next week he fell asleep at the end of the second. When we started the third, (the next week) Luke thought he was gonna fall asleep so he wasn’t too into watching it. Just then, Annie (his girlfriend) called so he woke up fast and went into the other room to talk. Oh well, we know somebody ain’t gonna know who the mole is. (the story is a mole in a british agency and Alec Guiness tries to hunt him out. It’s a spy movie.)
We watched episode four. George Smiley (the character who Alec Guiness plays) flashbacked to thirty years earlier when he interrogated the bad guy called Karla. Ma noticed that the guy who played Karla looked like Patrick Steward (when he still had hair). At the end when we watched the credits, lo and behold, it was el Jon Luc Picard himself!
They still don’t want it. Maybe they just need some time to see what a great deal this is!
