Upgrading

Pa and Luke are finally upgrading their PCs. Pa has an nForce2 motherboard which is not too bad (it has USB 2.0 which is good) but Luke has an ancient, original nForce. Since they’re upgrading, I decided to try to sell my video card to them they didn’t want it but that didn’t stop me! I kept trying and this went on for quite a while and when they said that their motherboards will have PCI Express, that smothered the deal ’cause my card is AGP which is incompatible. Since Ma has a motherboard with AGP video, I tried to convince her to buy it from me. She almost did but she talked to Luke and whatever he said discouraged her from buying it.

So, from now on, I’ll be keeping a little log to see how long it’ll take to get anybody to buy this.

Bean Shooters

We (Luke and I) got these beans (from the green bean pods) and got some straws and some eye protection and went out and had a bean fight. They shot better than potato guns!

I’m not sure if that was worth making a whole post about.

Broken Tube

After a pretty good volleyball practice, I biked home (as I do every week). I semi raced one kid ( I was keeping up with him let’s just say) on my bike. As I crossed the street and ran through a puddle. Since the puddle was rather murky yet reflective, I couldn’t see a little crack/pothole in the water. I heard this muffled *boom* or *pop* and I sank down a half inch. I wasn’t aware that I burst a tire until a block since I noticed that it was hard to pedal. I kept biking on thinking that there still might be some air in it but less than half way home, I thought it probably wasn’t a good idea to ride with a flat tire. I stopped and pressed my thumb into the tire to check the pressure and it sank down like a unbaked cake! I walked the rest of the way home.

Since my bike’s brake ain’t working too well and the gears click in a bad way and it’s basically a little half baked and I know that I’m probably not gonna grow too much more to outgrow a bike, We decided to get another bike. the bike I had before the one that “broke” was Luke’s old mountain bike. That was a nice ride and I liked going on the bumpy dirt roads at Wilder Ranch but with the road bike with the thin tires I got (the one the “broke”), going on the bumpy roads seemed a bit more treacherous (that’s probably too extreme a word for the case but it’s close). Plus, the back brake didn’t work so I couldn’t kick up dust or do any skid marks on the dirt.

Plus, a year ago when I got the road bike (but I was still used to the mountain bike) I was biking on the road and I turned a corner by leaning (as I did with the mountain bike) and the bike slid and I got thrown off. . . well, not thrown off, more like dropped off. Fortunately, I put my hand out which kept my body from hitting the ground. Under normal cirumstances, it’s good to roll but putting my hand out was fine. I got a big bruise on it but it went away in an hour. Anyway, I’m going off on a tangent so I’ll go back on track.

So, since the mountain bike felt a bit “safer” to do the fun stuff on, I opted to get one of those. I called up all the Santa Cruz stores to see if they had any light mountain bikes for under $200. They all said their lowest price was $330. I looked online at Costco and they had a Mongoose bike for $135. That seemed very promising but I went to Amazon and saw a better mongoose for $130. I thought that was good until I went to Walmart.com and saw the same bike for $99! I was gonna buy that until I saw that shipping was $75. Amazon had free shipping so I bought from them. It’ll come sometime this year. I’ll let you know the results

Oh yeah, the bike is called Mongoose Domain 26-Inch Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike in case you are interested

Flossy Toothbrush

While leafing through the latest edition of TV Guide, (we cancelled our subscription ’cause it’s becoming too much like People) I saw this ad for an electric toothbrush and it was called . . . well, I forgot the name but it had the word floss in it but it didn’t have anything to do with floss (I’m pretty sure)! Than a great idea for an electric toothbrush crossed my mind! You know what an electric toothbrush looks like, it has this 3-4 cylindery thing that holds the battery and on top of it is the brush head. Well, here’s my idea, the butt (why are you giggling?) of the cylinder is hollow and this floss holder thing slides in inconspicuosly. So, after you finish brushing, you press a button and out slides this sleek floss thingy! Confused? Well, this quickly made cheap picture will help.

Banjo

Well, I got most of the banjo done. I put four strings on it (I need to do special preparations for the fifth string) and was presently suprised when I heard sound coming out of it (when I plucked the strings of course). I started to play a piece when I suddenly heard this firecracker like *pop*. I immediatelly said, “Happy new year!” but then I realized what sound was. The bridge slid and smacked hard on the skin. Whew! That was close! I was afraid it was the skin or a string that broke (which would have made the pop sound).

If I get a little donation from anybody who’d like to hear how it sounds, I’ll put up a sound file of the final result.
