This morning, I unwrapped the rope ‘n fixin’s on the Dou and gave it a stress test by lightly pulling on opposite tends of it and throwing it up in the air a few inches. Held together like a tank!
Soon, I’m gonna cut out the whole and then it’s off to another carving adventure: The headpiece for the Shamisen called the Tenjin!
congrats on the successful toss test of the Dou. This is really looking good Kyle.
I envy such talent. when I was a kid and making the balsa wood airplanes, I’d usually end up gluing my fingers to one of the wings or the fuselage. LOL

Well, that has usually been my experience with working with wood. I must say I didn’t totally glue my fingers together (though my fingers got tacky once with glue and it was kinda fun) but my wood escapedes haven’t been stories I could’ve dined out on very long if you know what I mean.
Most of my woodwork has come from a bright idea and going down and making something without planning it out. When that happens, it never comes out right. This was the first project where I had planned for a long time which really made it good. Sinec I practiced so much, I feel comfortable making another ’cause there is more experience than “beginners luck” at work.
