Home-Made Shamisen

Ok, here’s the long awaited presentation of the Shamisen!

The Shamisen “leader” of the group has white tuning pegs (and the other players have black). Well, not only do I have white tuning pegs, I have a whole white Shamisen! I’m like the super-leader! Ha! (and that’s not a funny haha laugh, that’s a kind of a conquering Ha! not too funny but said in a light mood as not to be too serious).

Beach Training!

At Karate today, we decided to do a beach training! This should be fun with the good weather ‘n all!

Also, at class, we prepared for the Karate tournament which we’ll do next, next week. (or two weeks from now)

Banjo Skin Broke

I got out my banjo (which I hadn’t played since May) to play a bit and what was the first thing I noticed? The skin broke! It’s understandable I guess ’cause the weather has been flucuating from hot to cold recently but it split along the side.

Soon, I’ll get stretch a new goat skin over it.

Violent Waves

Boy, for the past three beach excursions, the waves have gotten violenter and violenter. It’s not that they’re more dangerous, it’s just that we’ve gotten tossed around rougher than before. For instance. Today, we went in the water and our very first wave pushed me down. (Since it was the first wave, I wasn’t prepared and didn’t have my groove on) Not only that, I summersaulted (pronounced something like that) and sandy, cruddier (more than before, small wood chips ‘n such) water was injected into my nose.

After a few good waves, there came this one big wave. Well, since I knew I couldn’t make it in time, I ran as fast as I could towards the wave and dove under when it breached/cracked. When I popped my head up, another wave was just about to come down. When I popped up again, I spotted yet another barrel of a wave. Same thing happened again after that.

Other than that, it was refreshing!

Played at Cabrillo Art, Wine, Music Festival

I played Shamisen at the Cabrillo Art, Wine, and Music festival that happens every year. (we’re gonna try to get the Abbott Family Band there next year!)

Fortunately, my brother was there to film it so I got it all on tape! Unfortunately, I was a little far from the mic so I didn’t get through very well (at least on the recording). It’s still good and when I post it up here, you can see the new Shamisen at work, you may not be able to hear it very well but you can still get a taste of it. I’m sure I’ll put a solo video of me playing on here too (since I need to film me playing for the Shamisen Construction Video I’m gonna make).

Of course, it’s past my bedtime and I’m asleep while I’m writing this so I’ll do the rest tomorrow or when I remember.
