Several upon several weeks ago, I made 6 jars of pickles. Last year and the year before, I made pickles but there was a problem. I waited till I got enough to do a batch process rather than one at a time. This means I couldn’t experiment ’cause if I did it wrong, all of the jars would taste bad. The problem with that was, it tasted bad (soft ‘n potent) already but I still didn’t want to risk ruining the ruined. (if you know what I mean) This year, I decided to pick ‘em younger than last time. When I looked for them, I only found enough for one jar. Rather than wait till more grew (which meant those younger cucs would be too old), I decided to just can one jar at a time… Continue reading ‘Opened Pickles’

I’m gonna be playing a private gig with some jamming friends and a practice was arranged for last night. There was thought that one of the jammers was gonna do it at his house (about 5 minutes away from our house) but there was a change of plans and it was moved to another jammer’s house (who lives 30 minutes away in Scotts Valley). He told me over the phone. Anyway,Dan (the jammer who lives closest to us) was gonna pick me up and we’d carpool to the Scotts Valley jammer.
Well, I’d been working outside for a few hours and it was half-hour ’till departure time. I came upstairs and Luke said that he’d take me to the practice. I said “why do you want to do that?” He said to get a change of scene so I called Dan and said that Luke was gonna drive me. He was just as suprised as me. After I hung up, Luke said that he changed his mind but Ma said she’d take me. I said I’d call him again and said I made a mistake and Ma said, “are you serious?” Well, there was some back ‘n forth debates. I said, “But Dan offered to take me!” Ma replied with “Just because somebody offers to take you doesn’t mean you accept. You thank the person for the offer but decline!” “But it saves gas!” “Kyle! What is wrong with you?”
Well, This went on ’till I noticed she was driving to Dan’s house. I said, “you know the practice is at Mary’s, right?” She said, “you are kidding, me. Right?” So that was quite a miscommunication. In case, you didn’t realize, Ma thought that the practice was at Dan’s house and not Mary’s who is a half hour away.
We had a good laugh about that. Haaa!
Well, we left at 1:30 (we were gonna leave at 1:00 but I was a little late at volleyball) anycase, we got there at 5:30 just when Steve and Jodi were unhooking the boat. Since it was getting dark, we went out to the lake right away. It was very nice out. I caught a bass but it was a little too small to keep.
It got dark in an hour so we went back and had dinner.
It’s been 7 years since we’ve been camping ’cause once we started getting into Bluegrass, we just went to bluegrass festivals instead. In any case, it was real nice actually camping without the constant 24/7 bluegrass music in the background. What I also haven’t seen in many, many years was the Milky Way! There were soooooo many stars out, it reminded me of when we camped at Chain Lakes in the Sierras.
I decided to sleep in the car ’cause I realized that I’ve slept under the stars before and I’ve slept in a tent. I’ve never slept in a car before and I thought that’d be pretty cool. Well, it was interesting. I was very quiet in there. I woke up several times ’cause I was anxious ’cause Steve was gonna wake me up at 5:30 to go fish. Well, when I went to sleep, there was a knock knock knock and then it was go time. Steve had some breakfast but it was a little too early for me to eat. I went to the bathroom instead. The bathroom was heavenly! All silver and the flusher was just a button!
5 minutes later, we hopped on the boat and set off. It was really neat seeing the fog covering the lake but I all I had for warmth was my sweatshirt (I accidentally left my jacket at home) so I was freezing. After ten++ freezing minutes of cruising full speed, we got to our spot. The rest of my body warmed up again but my hands were still freezing. We caught a few small bass but nothing much. When 9:00 rolled around, we cruised over to the bait shop to get some worms (since we used artificials) and warmed up ’cause they had a cast-iron stove hot ‘n piping. After we defrosted, we got back on the boat and casted near the other boats. No luck so we went back to camp.
After I ate breakfast, there was some downtime. I read a little bit.
A few hours later, we played a bit of music. It was hard to play ’cause I had a touch of spring fever and it was nice just hearing the birds and the silence so I wasn’t in a music mood. Anycase, after that, Steve ‘n Jodi’s daughter pulled up and they talked. After that, Steve, his daughter and I went back out again for an hour to catch Bluegill. Steve’s daughter caught the first, I caught the most and Steve caught the biggest. If we had a wager, it woulda been a tie.
When we got back, we packed up the car, said our goodbyes and left.
I’ll put on pics later
Whoo! Am I sore today! At Volleyball, I asked the kid to show me a back-hand spring. He did. I mostly got it. The only problem was I didn’t go straight back, rather I twisted to the side which didn’t work so well. I mean I wasn’t hurt at all but I couldn’t really do it ’cause I wasn’t going straight back. I’m glad I was doing this on the sand ’cause if it was even on mats, my legs would be bruised. Well, once I get over the subconcious “fear” of going jumping/bending straight backwards, I should get it.
Aaanyyyyway, afterwards, I was quite sore. Yesterday and to when I tried handsprings, I felt this funny feeling in my thigh/hips. It didn’t hurt much but it felt not-right. Well, I didn’t pay much mind to it so I kept flipping. Well, after volleyball was done, Pa nad Ma came to pick me up ’cause I accidentally played too long (’cause I was supposed to come home at 1:00 ’cause right when I got home, we were gonna hop in the car and go to Santa Margarita but more on the later) so I got in the car and Luke took my bike home. As we were driving to Santa Margarita (to fish), my left thigh was sore, my heel was hurting (probably from the shock of the added momentum when landing on my feet after the handspring) and both my arms hurt when I stretched my arms. Oh well, usually the first time you do a physical thing (like Karate, volleyball, softball, etc), you’ll get some places hurting but after the first or second time, that goes away.
