It’s one thing to see pictures of me making the Shamisen (back in July) but it’s sure cooler to watch it being made in action! Well, let me satiate (spelled something like that) your curiosity (or lack of) with a short video of making the Dou.

that was awesome, kyle! nice video work and editing, too! looking forward to seeing the next part…
Do you still have your video of you making your shamisen? I live in Pittsburgh with a couple of okinawan shamisens that need to be reskinned. I just stumbled on your blog. Thanks.
Oh yeah. I think when I moved to this new site (the one we’re on now), the videos didn’t get put on. I do have them and they are on youtube.
The video you might be most interested in is the skin stretching part This is the link to part one but through that, you can see part 2 and all the other of my shamisen-making vids: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TnUV0-iYoc
Thanks for the youtube link. Did you ever reskin your okinawan sanshin with snake skin?
Oh, no. I had a hard time finding snake skin. I looked on ebay and found two promising auctions. One was a 7 foot python skin but it wasn’t wide enough. Another one was much more promising. A 9 foot anaconda skin that was big enough but 30 minutes before closing, the price went up to $60 and I didn’t think I’d be playing it that much.
Watching your youtube videos are incredible. Where did you learn how to make each part of the shamisen?
this was a good website so i can make a shamisen thanks for the advice
