Boy, there was lots of free food at Costco today! Normally when we are at Costco, there are a few samples. Some are not too great. For example, a few nuts (which I can eat at home), apple sauce and a cookie. I mean I’m not complaining. It’s all good but some days are better than the others. And it’s our goal in life to strive for the best, right? (right.)
Well, anyway, today, we came at the right time (1:14). We first hit the gourmet alfredo. After that, we came across bread with a big hunk of gorgonzola cheese. I was still munching on that when we ran across chips and some sort of spinach dip. By that time, I had just polished off the cheese so my hands were free to get a corn chip/dip combo. A few steps later, there was pita chips and hummus! I was already eating the chips/dip so I put that in my pocket (I carefully put it in so it wouldn’t spill ['cause the sample had a paper napkin holding it]) and then grasped a mini cup of pita chips and hummus.
Then—oh lordy—came aisle after aisle of dessert… First there was the cream filled chocolates. I picked one up praying that it wasn’t filled with some liquer that would spill out when I bit the top off. Fortunately, it wasn’t (not that I have anything against liquers). Next aisle, we came to little holiday wafer thingys. (I had to stuff the first treat in my pocket before going for the next.
At this point, the sample servers were switching posts and shifts so there was a lapse in food distribution. Unfortunately, it came just when we arrived at the raspberry tarts! Luke and Pa waited by the cart (which was by the sample stand) and I went with Ma to look at the bread (which was behind that same sample stand). I wasn’t actually looking at the bread. I was keeping my eye on the stand waiting for the servign lady to pull out the morsels of pastries. Finally, she dished ‘em out and we stormed in . . . politely.
Afterwards, I was thirsty and the last stand there was the Joint Juice samples. I had seen those samples there for years but never took one (though I always was interested in seeing what they tasted like). Well, this time, I had Ma get one for me (since it’s a little akward for me, at my age, to be swigging Joint Juice. So she got one and we all sampled it. I don’t think anyone else cared for it but I thought it was rather tasty. It tasted like a bubbly, watered-down Snapple. Since Snapple tastes watered-down to begin with, this was especially thinned down (if you know what I mean) but it was sparkly and tasted quite fine so I went and got me a sample cup of it for myself. My joints were all lubed up for the rest of the day!
